To make a long story short, after I lost half of my taskbar icons to a typo last night (and couldn't figure out how to get them back!) I decided to have [livejournal.com profile] esrblog switch my desktop to Gnome (except for KMail).

He had it all ready when I got home tonight. Lo! It looked--amazingly like my KOffice desktop before the 8.10 upgrade.

There is a lesson here--if the KDE team has ears to hear it, and minds prepared to learn it. [livejournal.com profile] landley, you were right--most of KDE is no longer worth bothering with. :-(

Yikes. I might wind up migrating to XFCE or just going with something really lean like icewm if the new KDE is that bothersome.

Your mileage may vary, of course.

Hello,

Well, as a Linux gnubie, I like the OS, need to get a reference book (some of ye on-line docs not complete, hard to find stuf if you know not where to look already)

Wondering why no Linux equivalent to the ClipMate clipboard manager/extender ? (www.thornsoft.com) That's been a highly-praised bit of Windows productivity software for a decade or so, hard to put up with Klipper when you're used to something a couple of orders of magnitude better.

Yours, John

I don't use clipboard software or clipboard manager software, John, so I don't have any advice on this, sorry.
