I bet some of my friends are wondering what I've been doing for the past couple of weeks. The short answer: not much, and most of it not fun.
On Sunday, February 28, 2010, the heater on our waterbed mattress died. Since such mattress (or at least the kind of waterbed mattress we have) consists of a bag filled mostly with water, that means that the mattress began cooling, slowly, to room temperature. About four days after the heater died, the bed was unusable (and I hadn't been getting good sleep in it before then, either).
Yes, we ordered a new heater promptly over the Internet. They took 5 days to ship the darn thing. That's one company I'll never deal with again.
Meanwhile, Eric got sick with a form of galloping crud that started out looking like flu (aches, weakness, chills) and developed into looking more like the world's worst cold.
This past Tuesday, we finally got the new heater, installed it, and got the bed functional. All was fine until Friday--when I developed the same galloping crud. I spent most of today in bed, without an obvious effect on my physical state.
And tomorrow, we get to set the clocks ahead, losing an hour of rest I badly need. Glorious.
EDIT: Eric pointed out that our cat, Sugar, has been doing her best for me by staying close to me in the big bed and purring. I think he's right that her role in encouraging my recovery should be noted. In addition, Eric himself has also been doing his best to cosset and pamper me.
