The movie, that is, not the African island.
Madagascar was a series of cute jokes and movie homages (including tributes to Matrix 2 and Chicken Run, to give just a few examples) wrapped in a paper-thin excuse for a plot. The plot was so bad that I regretted the beautiful animation they wasted on it. On the other hand, some of the cute jokes were pretty good. I really liked the paranoid penguins, and the lemurs. The lemurs reminded me of the lemurs from the alt.fan.lemurs FAQ of long ago, except that being "wild" lemurs they had no credit cards, Twinkies or Big K grape soda, and their enemies were the Foosa, not the Purple Cow. (If you want to know what grape soda and purple cows have to do with lemurs, visit this site.).
After the movie, which I saw with
pmat,
shakati, and
stickybear, we went for ice cream at Bruster's, a really good ice cream chain, and finished the evening in
pmat's and
shakati's new hot tub. Yes, I said hot tub. Great way to end a summer evening, no?
