It's Saturday night, and I've finished my panels/events of the day, though Eric's last panel won't be over until 11:00 P.M. So it's a good time to write a few more words about the convention.
Eric and I finally got Rob to make some hot-sauce-spiced LN2 ice cream. We did chocolate, chocolate, chocolate and hot sauce. In addition to the usual sugar and cream, this one contained cocoa powder, Hershey's chocolate syrup, a box of Jello chocolate pudding, and 4 capfuls of Rasta Fire Hot Sauce. Rasta Fire Hot Sauce, which used to be sold under the name "Inner Beauty," is a habanero-based sauce that also features curry powder, pineapple juice, and papaya among its ingredients. The resulting ice cream was amazing--densely chocolatey, not too sweet, with enough fire to make the back of your throat ache, just a bit.
After some errand-running and hang time in the con suite, it was time for me to judge cosplay. Cosplay, for those of you who don't know, is the anime con's equivalent of the fannish Masquerade, a costume competition with awards and/or prizes. For some reason, I expected it to be more formal and organized than a fannish masquerade, but it wasn't. The young women who were running it told me and the other judges, Jimmie Bragdon and
howardtayler, to decide upon our own criteria, and what we would name the awards. They actually had trophies for us to hand out. Since there were 5 trophies, and 6 entries, this took a bit of thought, but we ultimately arrived at an award structure that seemed appropriate.
Now, I'm going to head back out into the con and see if I can find a Munchkin game or something. :-)
