For the past few months, most of the available movie choices in the theaters have been too angsty, or romantic, or horror-laden, to suit both
esrblog and myself. However, Madagascar 2--Return 2 Africa is finally out, and
esrblog and I went to see it, see it with our friends
pmat and
shakati.
esrblog loved it. He raved afterward about the wittiness of the script and the (to him blessed) absence of music-and-dance numbers. He noted that it had avoided the curse of sequelitis by being at least as good as the original. He also remarked, "It was a shrewd idea on the part of the moviemakers to give the penguins more screen time."
What do I think? It was pleasant enough. Unfortunately, I can't explain my opinions about the movie without spoilers, so I shall have to put the rest of this review under an lj-cut.
