The other day, I saw a potato chip flavor in a store that I find even more disturbing than the "Steak and Worcestershire Sauce" potato chips I castigated a little while ago.

Would you believe, Philly cheesesteak flavored potato chips?

I wondered how they could replicate the unique blending of over-fatted meat and cheese that characterizes the true Philly cheesesteak. Taquitos.net (see the link above) gave a mini-review of the chip, and the answer is--they didn't bother. "Taste: These potato chips were crisp with a nice kettle-cooked crunch, and they had a tasty, very oniony steak flavor, like grilled onions. There was no cheese in the taste that I could notice. The flavor wasn't a whole lot different from what other chip companies usually call a Steak & Onion chip."

By the way, I think I've finally figured out what the deal is with all of these synthetic meat-flavored chips. They're trying to get us used to artificial food flavors, as preparation for the day when our entire diet will consist of porridge-like protein-enhanced synth-o-starch, grown in vats. Ew.

It's almost enough to make me convert to vegetarianism now, to avoid the rush. Almost. :-)
