My currently oldest cat - Ringtail - is thirteen, and hard of hearing. He has never liked to have his ears touched. Don't know if there's a connection.

Don't know. I *do* know that Sugar has gotten to like having me clean out her ears--so long as I only use my fingers--no cotton, or anything else. Go figure that one out. :-)

It's not as gross as you'd think. Her ear wax is dry and scentless--it looks like really dark rich topsoil more than anything else.
