[livejournal.com profile] esrblog and I just returned from seeing it. It seemed like a good time, since I'm on vacation the rest of this week, and we're heading to World Boardgaming Championships tomorrow.

I don't want to say anything that could conceivably count as a spoiler, in case anyone reading this hasn't seen it yet, but wants to.

So let's just start with this. As the credits began to roll, [livejournal.com profile] esrblog turned to me and said, "There's just one word for this; Hugo."

I concur. My heartrate is still coming back down to normal. *That's* how effective it was.

[livejournal.com profile] esrblog also said, "It works on so many levels; as a thriller, as an SF movie, as a psychological horror movie."

Again, I concur.

The cinematography was stunning. The plot tight and clever, the pacing...properly adapted to what it needed to do.

And the actors were well cast and brilliant. In my opinion, the only exception was DiCaprio. There were aspects of his role I don't think he was well suited to capture. But he did a game, professional job--just like his character did. Fortunately for him, the denouement played to his strengths in ways that the setup in the beginning and middle of the movie did not, and the denouement was the most powerful part of a complex, gripping movie.

I'm still glad I went with Sorcerer's Apprentice on Saturday, though. This movie was a bit more intense than I wanted just then, before dinner.

If you haven't seen it, no explanations by me about what made the movie powerful would be convincing. If you have, they aren't necessary.

Go and see it.

You should, IMHO. The trailer stinks; the movie is not cheesy, though the trailer makes it seem that way.

It was very worth seeing. I may see it again if I can drag someone with me. This despite the massive onset of fridge logic.

Fridge logic? What do you mean?

Things that don't bother you until half an hour later. See TVTropes.

Googling "inception fridge logic" brings up a fine assortment of carping.

Ah, I see, thanks. I hadn't found that trope before.
