My windshield wipers seem to be okay after all.
I got into my car this morning to zip over to the train station, and the wipers started going as soon as I turned the ignition key. Further experiments revealed that they were responding to the wiper switches normally.
So at least I don't need to spend more on my car *this* month.

I have a receipt from the thing being servied before I bought it, presumably it's still under warantee. The hard part's going to be getting up to cedar park sometime during the day to have it serviced...

Yes, if there's a warranty applicable it should still be under it. Maybe you should see if the place you need to go to get it serviced will let you bring it in on a Saturday. Some garages will do that if you go before noon, or something like that.
The scariest emergency repair I've ever needed was the time my tire blew out when we were in West Chester. By the time I got it to the nearest repair place (the dealer who'd sold it to me) that tire was down to the bare metal of the rim.

I think your ploblem is common amongst Subarus. I just had mine serviced, and the mechanic caught my problem. I think the only reason he caught it was because he was looking for it.

I can't remember if my radio was on or not; I don't think it was. Anyway, I'll remember your advice in case it ever happens again. Thanks.
