Is to find a construction paper assortment that contains these colors: light purple, dark purple, bright green, and red.

I thought I had succeeded today at Staples, only to learn when I opened the pack at home that there not only was no dark purple, there was no green! How dare they sell a pack of construction paper without any green in it?

Construction paper without green? Bizarre!

Maybe try checking an art store that might sell individual sheets from larger reams, rather than packs? I'm pretty sure I've seen construction paper sold in individual sheets or one-color small packs before, though it might end up being in larger quantities than you're looking for.

Once, you could walk into any five-and-dime store, or even any drugstore, and get a pack of construction paper with a large selection of colors. (I should know--doing things with construction paper was one of my favorite hobbies in childhood).

Now, however, Staples and the drugstores near me have proven inadequate in this respect.

I was hoping to avoid the art store route, since I only need the construction paper for a temporary project (specifically, for mockups of proposed Raptor banner designs) but I suspect I'm not going to find what I need anywhere else. :-(

Have you tried a dollar store?

Yes. I looked in a dollar store just this afternoon. They had the same kind of cheap selection as the drugstores had--only one shade of purple. But they at least had both red and green! (Though the red was a crappy, pale kind of red, not as good as the red in the Staples pack).

I will at least look in a local art store. Maybe I can buy a sheet of green and a sheet of dark purple and go from there.
