You should have asked me. :-) Though it may be just as well you didn't find the information in time. It was much smaller than usual--only about 58 people instead of the usual 70-80--and the hotel rate was high ($94 per night--and that was the con rate).
I wouldn't have been selling. To my mind, there's no point in missing most of a convention in exchange for maybe covering my expenses. I would have gone for the fun of it, and done it as cheaply as possible.
I didn't anticipate that you would have been selling; that was part of my point. Even if you crashed with someone, the hotel costs were still substantial, and the hotel restaurant was an Outback Steakhouse. There's cheap food available, but it all requires a short drive; almost none is within even liberally interpreted walking distance.
