Starting a blog, that is. I'm still trying to answer that question. :-)
For years, I've resisted the idea of starting a web page of any kind, on the grounds that I didn't really have anything to say that mattered, and because there was too much senseless garbage floating around the Internet already.
Then I became addicted to email lists, and started spending more than an hour a day on email. I remember reading a comment from a friend of a friend who said that the reason she LiveJournals is so that she can keep up with all of her friends, and they can keep up with her, without wasting so much time on email.
I had to admit that that seemed like a good reason to start a LiveJournal. (Though I'm equally sure it's not going to stop me from writing lots of emails anyway.)
I was still thinking about starting a LiveJournal when Illiad (yes, J.D. Frazer, the guy who draws User Friendly) nearly persuaded me to change my mind, with this Sunday strip about blogs:
http://ars.userfriendly.org/cartoons/?id=20040613&mode=classic
I still can't get this strip out of my head (as the title of this journal shows) but I've decided to plunge forward anyway, and add to the vast plume of flotsam and jetsam that is the Internet.
Duck!
