Starting a blog, that is. I'm still trying to answer that question. :-)
For years, I've resisted the idea of starting a web page of any kind, on the grounds that I didn't really have anything to say that mattered, and because there was too much senseless garbage floating around the Internet already.
Then I became addicted to email lists, and started spending more than an hour a day on email. I remember reading a comment from a friend of a friend who said that the reason she LiveJournals is so that she can keep up with all of her friends, and they can keep up with her, without wasting so much time on email.
I had to admit that that seemed like a good reason to start a LiveJournal. (Though I'm equally sure it's not going to stop me from writing lots of emails anyway.)
I was still thinking about starting a LiveJournal when Illiad (yes, J.D. Frazer, the guy who draws User Friendly) nearly persuaded me to change my mind, with this Sunday strip about blogs:
http://ars.userfriendly.org/cartoons/?id=20040613&mode=classic
I still can't get this strip out of my head (as the title of this journal shows) but I've decided to plunge forward anyway, and add to the vast plume of flotsam and jetsam that is the Internet.
Duck!

This is the internet.

Why on earth would you let THAT stop you? (Heck, for most of us it's not even a reason to break stride.)
Besides, it's DIGITAL senseless garbage. Doesn't take up space in landfills, and we can have twice as much of it every 18 months. :)

Re: This is the internet.
Because for most of you public disclosure of stuff that used to be considered private is considered par for the course? :-)
Color me old-fashioned, if you will, but one of my crochets has always been to believe, until proven otherwise, that nobody is really interested in my rantings unless they've agreed to *pay* for them.

Storage space for digital ranting is huge, but still not infinite. :-D

If you look at my LJ, you'll find entries of great importance (well, to me, anyway), entries of minor importance, and entries of no importance whasoever. Nobody expects you to be profound all, or even most, of the time. Just write what you think you might want to read later.

"Duck!"
...and cover!
Good to see you here. More interesting (or at least just more) stuff to read.

Here's a photo, though if that isn't enough, I'm Paul Neubauer. We met last year one evening, in July, when Jay Maynard and I visited Philadelphia for a weekend or so.
