Late last week, I got a machine-generated letter from the IRS advising me that my economic stimulus check would be deposited in the same bank account I'd designated for my tax refund.

It will be for $16.00.

Woo.

Don't spend it all in one place, unless that place is especially stimulating.

Exactly.

It's just right to buy me a nice dinner for one, or enough to buy me and [livejournal.com profile] esrblog dinner at a place like Cosi's or some similarly casual/cheap chain.

As long as you remember that it's your patriotic duty to rush out and spend that money.

We have yet to receive any such notification, but some persons here have suggested saving the money — as a deliberate act of contrariness and defiance! — instead of spending it. Can you imagine?

As my father used to say, "your sarcasm, sir, is overwhelming." :-)

Frankly, in light of the amount of debt the average American is carrying, I suspect most of the stimulus checks will go to (personal) debt service.

I must be a real geek, but my first thought on seeing the amount of you check was "Hey! That's 2^4!"

Oh, I'm going to be a real rebel when I get my stimulus check. First, it's going into my SAVINGS account. And then, after that, when it's time, it's going to be part of the money that's moved from my savings account to my ROTH IRA account. For 2009. Because I already maxed out my IRA for 2008. (Yeah, you can cut the smugness with a knife in this post. Not bad for someone who had to declare bankruptcy less than seven years ago, no?).
