I need some input here from my friends in Austin.
Eric had originally been asked by the South by Southwest Music Conference (SXSW) to give a talk on open source at the conference in mid-March. I was planning to tag along (on my own nickel) so we could visit all of our Austin friends.
Unfortunately, Eric's contact at SXSW contacted him today to cancel--it appears they can't scare up the funds to fly him to Austin, so the gig's off.
On the other hand, Eric recently learned that UT wants him to give another talk there--and they *do* have the funds. Even better, their schedule is flexible. Eric can choose to come to give the talk just about any time this semester (i.e., from now until sometime in May).
Now our question is when should we decide to go? This weekend is out because Eric has to go to Boston to talk to some Red Hat representatives. The weekend of April 16 is out because of a special event at our martial arts school, and the following weekend is Penguicon (at which we're both Nifties, so we have to show up!). Eric will probably want to make Lunacon (March 19-21) and Balticon (Memorial Day weekend). Otherwise, Eric's schedule is open.
Complicating matters is the fact that we'd like to arrange to stay at least a week, but I have a case that is in heavy trial preparation mode and, under the current schedule will be until....the end of May! (On the other hand, there may be a serious effort to get the judge to adjust the schedule before then. God knows if it will succeed, but the farther behind we all get despite best efforts, the better the prospects become).
So, what about it? Those of our friends who live in Austin (and you know who you are) what dates would make it likeliest that we would get to spend time with you while we're in town? Let us know!
