The mobile phone I have had since...2001? could it be that long? ... now has half its hinge broken, and is threatening to lose the top part of its clamshell case (the part with the screen) any minute.
So on Saturday, I visited sprint.com and ordered a new phone, in Midnight Black instead of Playful Pink. (Since I already am a Sprint customer, the charge for the phone plus the standard charger was $0, instead of the $89.99 shown in the picture that I'd formerly linked to here.) The price was a key consideration, since I likely will change phones again with
esrblog when smartphones running Google's Android software become available.
The new phone arrived yesterday and is now in my belt pouch, activated. Though it's a low-end phone by 2008 standards, it still has features I never bothered to get before, like a digital camera and speakerphone capability. My only problem with it so far is the way it handles speed dialing. My old Samsung phone assigned each new entry a number, which you could punch in and it would dial that number, so in effect your entire directory was on speed dial. This phone has only 8 dedicated speed-dial spaces. For your other numbers, the phone will let you punch in part of the number and it will dial the rest--not as good. Alternatively, you just go through your alphabetically-organized directory, find the entry, and select it to dial.
Guess I got what I paid for, huh?
Edit: I have supplied a link to a different picture and changed the text slightly to cure the problem noted by
terriwells in her comment below.
Even Later Edit: It's January 2009, and the link to the picture of the phone is gone, which probably means Sprint doesn't carry it anymore. So I've taken the link out altogether.
