Eric and I just got back from Austin, Texas, where Eric was doing another open-source related gig (speaking to business students at UT, of all things) and taking part in an OSI board meeting. The professor that brought him to Austin this time wants to put him on the thesis committee for one of his promising grad students, and there is the suggestion that he might try to recruit Eric as an adjunct professor (of economics, of all things). Eric is amused, but thinks these developments are pretty cool.
Meantime, we did our best to see all of our Austin friends. On Sunday, we went to the Alamo Drafthouse with
landley,
fadethecat, and two people Eric met the last time we were in town, for "The Muppet Movie Sing-A-Long". Yes, it was the Muppet Movie, with the words of the songs captioned on the screen so the audience could take part. Amazingly good fun; I was pleasantly surprised. We had a number of really great dinner expeditions, and the obligatory pilgrimage to Rudy's (gas station and barbecue mecca) was made. And Eric and I finally persuaded Cyndy's cats to come out from hiding and be petted.
Now we're home. It's good to be home with our cat, but I miss our friends, and the 70 degree Fahrenheit weather.

Not a whole lot of musicals in the past 20 years that weren't animated, though. (The most recent one that comes to mind as me having liked it is "Mulan"...)

I didn't like Mulan as much as I'd wanted to; it seemed so predictable, somehow. And it wouldn't make a very good sing-a-long movie.

I was kind of fried last night, since I'd just gotten back from Austin (usually at least a 6 hour trip by plane), and I didn't bother to check. I'll fix it. Thanks.
