Economic observation

When I was in Cherry Hill, NJ this past weekend for Philcon, I noticed that regular grade gasoline was going for $1.69 at the gas station closest to my hotel.

EDIT: The cheapest gas near me is $1.89 as of Thanksgiving Day.

More on Philcon later.

Slightly cheaper than that here.

I have yet to figure out if this means "demand has tanked not just seriously, but borderline apocalyptically", "Hi, the oil companies acknowledge that the Bush administration is over and regulators are paying attention again: We'll stop price gouging now, please please please don't indict us."

Probably some combination of factors...

I don't know the answer to that either.

By the way, near my home (say, within a 10 mile radius), gas runs from about $1.99 to $2.15. The New Jersey price I saw was *strikingly* cheaper than that, which is why it caught my attention.
