Back from World Boardgaming Championships in Lancaster, PA. We came home early because we had no events for Sunday AM or Saturday night and are just exhausted.

How did I do? Better than last year but still no awards:

I got into the semi-final round in Empire Builder (Mayfair Games' line of crayon railbuilding games), only to lose to the man who ultimately won the tournament.

I got into the semi-final round in Cavemen: The Quest for Fire (a surprisingly strategic silly card game), only to lose to the man who ultimately won that tournament.

I got into the quarter-final round in Puerto Rico (a game loosely based upon shipping in the 16th century CE Caribbean) by the skin of my teeth, not having managed to win any of the prior heats (got 2 second-place finishes) and...didn't make it into semi-finals. Details upon request.

And I played in two tournaments where I didn't clear but did better than I expected: Power Grid (finished 4th, 2nd, and 3rd in three close games) and Carcassonne (finished 2nd, 1st, and 4th in two close finishes and a minor blowout).

I also played a round in the Innovation tournament, but the less said about that, the better.

[profile] esrblog had a similarly interesting time; check his Google Plus for further details.

Learned one new game, a dice game called Skyline made by Tasty Minstrel Games. We've ordered one from here.

Now, on to Summer Weapons Retreat for some ancient Greek spear-flinging fun!
