Sugar is more than just a cat; she's a friend--practically a family member. She was my mother's last pet; Mom's last coherent request, to me, when she was on her deathbed was that I take care of Sugar.
I can't vouch for how long my principles would hold up if I got *really* hungry, but I hope that I would exhaust all other possible sources of food before I even considered killing her for food.
That's fine. Not everyone is a cat lover; my father detested cats (Mom acquired Sugar during her second marriage, years after my dad had passed away) and wouldn't have one in the house. So I know where you're coming from--even if I don't agree.
