Strep Throat
That's my doctor's diagnosis.
On Friday, I drove off with
esrblog to the last of 6 Brassy's Men LARPs on Friday, and awoke Saturday morning with a fever and sore throat. I might have given up on the game, except that the game was a three-hour drive from home, and the idea of driving home with fever and a sore throat was far less appetizing than attempting to game that way.
Fortunately,
esrblog had some acetaminophen in his toilet kit, and I found that by rationing the stuff out, I was able to get through the game and get home. Then I collapsed, and have spent most of the last two days in bed.
Usually, I only go to my doctor when I'm convinced that what I have won't go away with sufficient bed rest, and this was one of those times. The diagnosis confirms that I was right. (But why can't I be right when the consequences don't suck?)
Anyway, I'm writing this so everyone who reads this will know that I haven't fallen off the face of the planet if I appear even less than usual on LiveJournal. I shall, however, return. Eventually.

I agree that if you have something that won't just go away on its own, getting treatment started ASAP is usually the shortest road to recovery. I usually have a problem recognizing that something is not just going to go away on its own, so when it doesn't I end up being sick for quite awhile. Fortunately, most things I seen to catch do seem to go away on their own (with a little help from my immune system).
