I'm exaggerating, but only slightly.

There are now two very dark spots on the outside of the orbit of my left eye socket, and the area between them is swollen. It's hard to see that there's anything wrong when my glasses are on, though. So far.

What happened: I failed to block a headshot while engaging in sword practice with

esrblog. This is why I don't wear my glasses when we spar.

He's kind of proud of me, he says. For my part, I think I'd have more reason to be proud if I'd given *him* the shiner, instead of taking one myself.

If he ever did for real - I'm sure you'd give him what for.....

If I'd been wearing mine this evening, I would be replacing the temple piece for sure, and possibly getting the left lens reinstalled too.

Priceless.

I managed to get clocked upside the head with a bamboo SCA sword when someone tried to show me how to use a shield. We decided afterwards that I needed a helm...

I note that SCA swords are somewhat heavier than what we use (which is PVC pipe with closed cell padding). So we don't *use* helms; we learn to take the bruises instead. And the design is good; bruises are all that people *do* get, unless they fall badly or something other than one of the weapons hits them.

Y'know, I'm pretty sure at this point in my life I couldn't bring myself to date a guy who couldn't give me a damned good fight.
