Now it looks more like a conventional shiner. There is a ring of bruise around 3/4ers of my eyesocket, most of it in a delicate spring green. The deep purple is receding, slowly, from my eyelid and the corner of my eye. Now, it just looks ugly.

The good news: the swelling at the edge of my eye socket has gone down, and the only bruising there is a bit of dark purple at the corner of my eye and a faint greenish tinge on the swollen area.

The bad news: One third of the surface of my left eyelid is now blackish purple.

Actually, I don't mind so much. My glasses hide the worst of the damage, and what hints do show just make my eyesocket look a bit deeper. If I had the same effect on both eyes, it would kind of look like makeup.

But no, I don't intend to turn the other cheek, this time.

I'm exaggerating, but only slightly.

There are now two very dark spots on the outside of the orbit of my left eye socket, and the area between them is swollen. It's hard to see that there's anything wrong when my glasses are on, though. So far.

What happened: I failed to block a headshot while engaging in sword practice with [livejournal.com profile] esrblog. This is why I don't wear my glasses when we spar.

He's kind of proud of me, he says. For my part, I think I'd have more reason to be proud if I'd given *him* the shiner, instead of taking one myself.
