For the last few weeks, both Eric and I have been fighting off killer colds while trying to go on living our lives, including attending one SF convention (ConFusion, in Michigan) and the Brassy's Men LARP in Maryland.

The end result of this has been that, when I've had the time to write, I have not had the energy to think of anything interesting to wtite about. I still can't.

Hopefully, I will eventually shake the rest of the cold and have some spare energy to write something interesting.
Mood:: 'tired' tired

I hear you. We got stompled by a rhinovirusocerous this last couple of weeks, and while it's not flat-on-your-back debilitating like the flu, it DOES push most non-essential activities past the back burner and down behind the stove.

(Where they either catch fire, or attract mice.)

I read your post about fighting the deadly rhinovirusocerous, and it was much funnier than I could ever hope to be when I'm sick. :-(

I no longer believe in Vitamin C for cold prevention, but I'm in agreement with you on the virtues of zinc; it has stopped colds in their tracks for me a few times. Unfortunately, you have to take it soon enough and consistently enough for optimum results, and I didn't manage to dose myself appropriately in time to ward off the Fury.

And unlike most colds, this one *was* debilitating--or at least the one Eric and I had; I missed most of Friday night of ConFusion because of it--and I was already *in* the con hotel at the time!

I've heard that the plague that was going around ConFusion was brought out to Arisia, and I know at least 20 people who were seriously sick the week after Arisia!

I hope you both get well soon

Not sure how anything could be transmitted from 'Fusion to Arisia, since they were on the same weekend this year.

Yes, and Eric and I got hit with it in Pennsylvania, and several friends of ours in Austin all came down with it, though none of them had been in physical contact with each other (or even in the same state at the same time)!

I have but one explanation for all this.

Parallel evolution.

I was told that [livejournal.com profile] ssantara went to both, got sick at ConFusion, and met people who got sick at Arisia (for example). Arisia was a week later than normal this year, if that makes a difference.

Yes. Arisia was a week later than normal, which put it on the same weekend as ConFusion (21–23 January). You have been misinformed.

Thanks.

Eric is already well again, and I probably will be as soon as I get enough sleep for enough days in a row--something I have problems doing even when I'm well. :-)

[livejournal.com profile] junipercrowfoot and I are sick, too. It's not a cold. Don't know what it is. It sucks. Let's all get well soon, shall we?

I certainly agree to that! Hugs. :-)

Glad you got to ConFusion. Did you see anyone we (I) know? Were you on the program or Eric? Did you role play and were you in costume? If so, as who or what? Any new Games out there?

As for the cold, Chicken Soup and a big comforter.

I don't think any of the Michigan folk I saw there are people you know, Scratch, and I didn't see anyone but ourselves from the Philadelphia area. (Arisia was the same weekend, making it less likely we'd see East Coasters in Michigan).

I was on a panel about the SF movies, etc. of 2004, and Eric and I did our self-defense workshop, but that was the only panel stuff we did.

There was no LARP at the con, though I was in costume for awhile--partly because I was helping to judge the Masquerade and I like to be in costume for that.

Ah, new games. That was one of the best things about the con; there was a Mayfair representative there, and we hung out in the gaming area awhile, Eric and I, trying new games to collect coupons for discounts on the games being sold in the dealers' room. We played a two-person "Starfarers of Catan" variant that was surprisingly interesting for being a two-player game, a Yahtzee clone based on the old '50 dance marathons called (I think) "Cha-Cha-Cha!" and a puzzle game called Oceania where players competed to discover and explore the greatest number of islands first (which is again a 2-player version of a larger game). With our coupons, we bought a travel-sized version of "Settlers of Catan" and a full-sized version of a game called "Domaine", a territory-grabbing game Eric really likes.

Eric and Sugar pin me in our heated waterbed under two big comforters every night, but that hasn't quite cured what's got me. I should try the chicken soup. :-)
